Occitanie en scène is committed to facilitating the international distribution of works from the region, and is a driving force in European and international cooperation. By engaging in European partnerships, Occitanie en scène develops synergies and establish strong collaborations with European cultural partners, including festivals, theatres, international fairs and cultural operators.
Since 2010, the regional agency is part of the IETM network, it is a membership organisation.
IETM – International network for contemporary performing arts is one of the oldest and largest international cultural networks, representing the voice of over 500 performing arts organisations and individual professionals working in the contemporary performing arts worldwide.
Mission of the IETM network:
To stimulate the quality, development and contexts of contemporary performing arts in a global environment by initiating and facilitating:
- professional networking and communication
- the dynamic exchange of information
- know-how transfer and presentations of examples of good practice.
It's aim is to:
Anticipate: new artistic tendencies and evolutions in the environment of the contemporary performing arts in Europe and around the world.
Connect: diverse organisations who share common interests in a cross-sector network.
Catalyse: international partnerships, exchanges, collaborations and knowledge transfer.
Strengthen: the contemporary performing arts sector by providing new arguments for the arts and by supporting professionals via informal learning experiences.
Influence: public policy through active participation in cultural policy debates, policy for and through direct advocacy.
Federate: different actors in the sector through IETM’s neutral and international nature.
The Travesía - Pyrénées de cirque project is a cross-border initiative between France and Spain, aimed at promoting the employment of circus artists in the Pyrenees region. It seeks to address the new challenges brought about by the coronavirus pandemic, by transforming and adapting existing support methods for the sector. Through mentoring, aid for dissemination and aid for creation and research, the 8 partners are addressing the artists' needs for resources for the creation and dissemination of their works. They are also working to involve the whole profession, in an effort to develop a model of cooperation and solidarity through experimentation and mutual learning. This project was co-financed by the POCTEFA program of the European Union.
Scènes en réseaux is a pioneering France-Quebec cooperation project, jointly led by Occitanie en scène and Réseau Scènes (network of professional multidisciplinary presenters in Quebec), in partnership with La danse sur les routes du Québec (Quebec network of presenters, artists choreographic and dance companies). The project's goal is to explore the ecosystems of the dissemination of the living arts on both sides of the Atlantic, to develop new work processes and to experiment with new professional practices. Through an exchange of know-how, the project seeks to build a shared knowledge and mutual trust which will enable suitable artistic scouting in order to promote the circulation and support of artists (co-creation, co-production and distribution) between France and Quebec. Scènes en réseaux is co-financed by the Permanent Commission for Franco-Quebec Cooperation.
BE SpectACTive! is a large-scale European cooperation project, co-funded by the Creative Europe program of the European Union. It is dedicated to the development of participatory practices in live performance, in particular by involving citizens and the public in the definition and implementation of programs or in creative processes (spectator committees, participatory approaches, immersion residencies within the territories, etc.).
Nine cultural establishments on either side of the Pyrenees have joined forces in the Pyrenart project - co-financed by the European Union within the framework of POCTEFA - with the aim of developing and strengthening the performing arts sector internationally of the Pyrenean cross-border area. Pyrenart was coordinated by Occitanie en scène, project leader, and supported by a network of 9 partners from the Franco-Spanish cross-border area. Pyrenart has rolled out networking actions in the performing arts sector to enable the development of skills and the international mobility of professionals and to develop the internationalization of artistic companies.
This cross-border project was carried out to improve the orientation, training and support of circus artists, in particular emerging artists, by creating solidarity links with the entire profession. Through the various partnerships set up, De Mar a Mar has brought together more than 40 operators in France and Spain, invested in the field of contemporary circus. The project is articulated in an international dimension in order to allow artists to also find opportunities beyond the Pyrenees and the borders of their country. De Mar a Mar was co-financed by the POCTEFA program of the European Union.
Meeting the Odyssey is a cooperation project with a social and artistic dimension sailing from the Baltic Sea to the Mediterranean. From 2014 to 2016, artists and cultural managers from different European countries traveled together, gave workshops and presented plays. The project has forged a link between elements of the Odyssey and contemporary themes linked to Europe through testimonies collected from local populations. This collaboration has enabled the various partners to discover new artistic landscapes and works habits which have made it possible to develop new European synergies. Led by the Viirus Theater in Finland, the project was co-financed by the Culture Program of the European Union and brought together a network of 16 European cultural structures.
A cross border platform for cultural cooperation held by the association Chèvrefeuille (Toulouse), Fusic, Fundacio Societat I Cultura (Barcelone), Multilateral (Huesca) and Réseau en scène Languedoc-Roussillon. For 2 years, this crossborder project (financed by the POCTEFA program) offered times and spaces for the professionals from both countries to exchange on their practices and professional realities. Educational programs dedicated to the cultural professionals from Spain and France were organized on different topics: young audiences, music, dance, and how to collaborate in Europe? Professionals meetings were organized in the two countries as well as artistic showcases in order to discover the diversity of the performing art in both countries.
Réseau en Scène Languedoc-Roussillon is regularly involved in international performing art markets.
A certain number of artistic companies from the Languedoc-Roussilllon region have been represented during these international events.
Following the objective to support the independent musical field and to develop the national and international distribution of the regional musical bands, Réseau en scène Languedoc-Roussillon took part from 2008 to 2011 in the Midem (international market of the musical production record and release) which is known as the world's largest trade fair for the music industry, and has been held since 1967.
Réseau en scène Languedoc Roussillon supported producers and artists to attend this event with two different kinds of actions:
In 2008 and 2009 independent producers from Languedoc-Roussillon were supported to present their work on a booth during the Midem.
Then in 2010 and 2011 showcases were organized in collaboration with other french regions in order to promote two artists from each region. These show cases initiated by the regions Languedoc-Roussillon, Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur, in collaboration with the city of Cannes were called: Régions in live, Independent french labels party.
A call for application was especially organized for the regional artists in order to select the 2 musical bands.

The international Tanzmesse NRW is a biennial marketplace and festival platform for communicating and networking in the field of contemporary dance. At the Tanzmesse international dance companies and artists present their work live on stage and choreographers, dancers, agencies, presenters and cultural institutions worldwide network and co-operate in a lively marketplace.
Réseau en scène Languedoc Roussillon has been involved in this market place with regional companies since 2008.
Réseau en scène Languedoc-Roussillon support and encourages the fact of bringing together regional dance companies those are interested to be present during the Internationale Tanzmesse NRW.
A call for application is organized and mobility grants are awarded to the professionals willing to promote their work on the international scale.
Réseau en scène Languedoc-Roussillon is renting and fitting out a booth for the Languedoc-Roussillon regional companies and promotional documents are also published to gather informations about the companies involved in the market place.
